About ME, Two

As you may already understand, Dale Broste and NoMoHype are about helping people.  I created the name NoMoHype (dba), because we ALL need NO more Hype (assuredly less than we have).  I will never use Hype.  I used the TAG “Help ME, Help YOU” in past years, and it still applies now.

Personally, my background is engineering, Field Service engineering, some Mechanical & Electrical design, Project Engineering, Maintenance Engineering.  I spent a great deal of my career on contracts in Water and Waste Water Treatment plant upgrades, Automotive Manufacturing upgrades, Commercial Building Control Systems Commissioning (this one fell apart, before it got through construction) and Maintenance management.  I bring “this” information to you so you have some idea where I came from, and that I am not Hype.  Oh, I was raised on a wheat farm in North Dakota.

After many years of exploring many small and home businesses and actually qualifying for bankruptcy in late 99 into 2000, I believe I now have found what I am looking for and what I can honestly and ethically introduce to you.  I have used, and continue to use many products that I have encountered in my serious quest.  I have lost money though.  I do not recoup my losses from new customers as that would not be ethical.

I need customers and will be helping my customers save money, improve their health and their immediate environment.

If you are a Parent or Grand Parent of school age kids you need to explore this.

Presently I am doing marketing for a large manufacturing company, who has an on line direct sales store.  At this store, all customers (including me) will shop for better products at a better price (saving) which will improve their home environment (ecology), resulting in improved (health).  It really is a win win win situation, and the big winner is your family.

I look forwarding to talking with you and determining how we can work together.

Sincerely…  My name is Dale O. Broste and I can be contacted at 314.740.7235 or DOBroste@Charter.Net  you have my blog page already www.NoMoHype.com (you are here already).

Race of the Rabbit and the Tortoise

The Race of the Rabbit and the Tortoise – Management Lessons

Race of the Rabbit and the Tortoise by AskSonnie, Do It Yourself, Start Up Tips

Accompanied video courtesy of https://www.youtube.com/user/coffeeticks

I first saw this version from my former employer’s website, while looking for a particular management lesson. I did some search and found several versions, but this is the best.   It is worth repeating, with credits.  However, author of below version is unknown.

The Added Value of CONTINUOUS LEARNING and Teamwork

Once upon a time, a tortoise and a hare had an argument about who was faster. They decided to settle the argument with a race. They agreed on a route and started the race. The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time. Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he would sit under a tree for some time and relax before continuing the race. He sat under the tree and soon fell asleep. The tortoise plodding on overtook him and soon finished the race, emerging as the undisputed champion. The hare woke up and realized that he had lost the race.

Management Lesson- “Slow and steady wins the race. This is the version of the story that we’ve all grown up with.”

THE STORY DOESN’T END HERE

The hare was disappointed at losing the race and did some soul-searching. He realized that he had lost the race only because he had been overconfident, careless and lax. If he had not taken things for granted, there is no way the tortoise could have beaten him.  Therefore, he challenged the tortoise to another race.

The tortoise agreed. This time, the hare went all out and ran without stopping from start to finish. He won by several miles.

Management lesson- ” Fast and consistent will always beat the slow and steady. It’s good to be slow and steady; but it’s better to be fast and reliable.”

THE STORY DOESN’T END HERE

The tortoise did some thinking this time, and realized that there is no way he can beat the hare in a race the way it was currently set up. He thought for a while, and then challenged the hare to another race, but on a slightly different route. The hare agreed. They started. In keeping with his self-made commitment to be consistently fast, the hare took off and ran at top speed until he came to a broad river. The finishing line was a couple of kilometers on the other side of the river. The hare sat there wondering what to do. In the meantime, the tortoise trundled along, got into the river, swam to the opposite bank, continued walking and finished the race.

Management lesson – “First identify your core competency and then change the playing field to suit your core competency.”

THE STORY STILL HASN’T ENDED

The hare and the tortoise, by this time, had become friends and they did some thinking together. Both realized that the last race could have been run much better, so they decided to do the last race again, but to run as a team this time. They started off, and this time the hare carried the tortoise till the riverbank. There, the tortoise took over and swam across with the hare on his back. On the opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and they reached the finishing line together. They both felt a greater sense of satisfaction than they’d felt earlier.

Management lesson – “It’s good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies; but unless you’re able to work in a team and harness each other’s core competencies, you’ll always perform below par because there will always be situations at which you’ll do poorly and someone else does well.

Teamwork is mainly about situational leadership, letting the person with the relevant core competency for a situation take leadership. Note that neither the hare nor the tortoise gave up after failures. The hare decided to work harder and put in more effort after his failure. The tortoise changed his strategy because he was already working as hard as he could.” In life, when faced with failure, sometimes it is appropriate to work harder and put in more effort. Sometimes it is appropriate to change strategy and try something different and sometimes it is appropriate to do both.

The hare and the tortoise also learned another vital lesson. When we stop competing against a rival and instead start competing against the situation, we perform far better.

To sum up- the story of the hare and tortoise has much to say:

In the CASE OF COCA-COLA COMPANY

When Roberto Goizueta took over as CEO of Coca-Cola in the 1980s, he was faced with intense competition from Pepsi that was eating into Coke’s growth. His executives were Pepsi-focused and intent on increasing market share 0.1 percent. Goizueta decided to stop competing against Pepsi and instead compete against the situation of 0.1 percent growth. He asked his executives what was the average fluid intake of an American per day. The answer was 14 ounces. What was Coke’s share of that? Two ounces. Goizueta said Coke needed a larger share of that market.

The competition was not Pepsi. It was the water, tea, coffee, milk and fruit juices, which made up the remaining 12 ounces. The public should reach for a Coke whenever they felt like drinking something. To this end, Coke put up vending machines at every street corner. Sales took a quantum jump and Pepsi has never quite caught up since.

Where is the greatest concentration of air pollution?

My intent IS and has always been to introduce needed, meaningful, ethical and cost effective products to my client base. It appeared very difficult to find these.  I Found it.  Now that I have “found it”, it appears my client base has mostly gone away.  I need customers.

“Help ME, Help You”, is a tag line I used in past years, and which is likely more true now than it has been in the past years.

Question…  Do you know individuals or families that are plagued with Asthma, Sinus, Coughs and more?  Does this appear as if they are breathing bad air?  Well, they technically are.

Question…  In your opinion, where is the greatest concentration of pollution on our planet?

IF you said “My House” or (your house) then you are right.  It has been determined that two or more times (that is 2X+) the concentration of pollution in our outside air, exists inside our home.  This comes from pet and people dander (just like the mattress industry), but mostly from our furniture polish, many cleaning agents, hair spray, air freshers and colons.  Did I also say Cleaning Agents.

I recall a woman, who talked about her 7-year-old son.  At age 7, he was still on a quarterly a shot, He went for breathing treatment every month, and daily he used a nebulizer every morning.  He had been doing this for 7 years.

They even had special filtration on the home too.  After hearing this webcast, recognizing the problem was IN her house, she turned things around big time.   Her son is now 14, involved in sports for the first time in his life, and has no shots, no nebulizer and no monthly treatments.

Question…  Did you know that your toothpaste and mouthwash could be hazardous to your health?

Please call or drop me an eMail, let me know your best availability.  I will find the earliest few webcasts and then call you back to finalize a convenient webcast schedule.  The webcast is only 50 minutes in length, and very much well worth your time.

I do not sell products, there is no pressure and this is free information.  Do not worry, this is not another MLM program, this is CDM.  If this is not something you are interested in (we are still friends, right), maybe you have a referral that has issues or also values their health.

This is about your health and the health of others in your home or others (anyone who breaths, really).

I need and want customers.  I want you to participate and become knowledgeable.  Oh, I almost forgot, through my suggested on line store, you can purchase well below suggested retail prices (likely more than $1000 per year savings).  My wife and I (family of 2) exceeded $800 savings in September (Oct 16 – Sep 17),

How to handle your eMail…

Culprit: Email Overload

There’s something about an email — it shoots into your inbox and itches to be answered immediately. Although many emails are work-related, they still count as distractions from your current project. You won’t make much progress if you constantly stop what you’re doing to reply to every message.

Fortunately (for all of us), eMail is not as insistent as a ringing phone, we can just turn it off.  I had a 20-something co-worker tell me one morning that she did not get any sleep last night, because she kept getting text messages.  We can turn that off too.  I hope I never get that out of control.

Email Overload Fix

Instead of checking email continuously, set aside specific times for that purpose. During the rest of the day, you can actually shut down your email program. This allows you to carve out blocks of time when you can work uninterrupted.

For example, what I do is check eMail only toward near mid morning (1) (10-11 somewhere, for 15-20 minutes) and again toward mid afternoon (2) (3-4 somewhere, for 15-20 minutes).  Doing it this way, I handle MY priority for several hours, before I am aware of someone in my work related world who needs something from me today (1).  Then toward the end of the day, I may learn who needs something from me in the morning, or maybe not (2).

Also I filter OUT any non work related eMail during both sessions (1) and (2).  This does not ALWAYS work, but I try.  I make exception for my immediate boss, and my wife (not the same, usually).

This is NOT a horse Race…

We are not running a horse race here…

We are “charged with” Electing a President to Help (yes I said Help) lead the nation out of our Economic and Financial Ruin. I used the phrase “Charged with” as we have the responsibility as citizens to vote responsibly to elect a president. WE are not picking a winner, as in a horse race; we are Electing a President based on logic, charisma, beliefs and personal history.

The various “parties” that promote candidates are charged with securing potential candidates for us “WE the people” to vote on. I am not sure why they are called Parties. If they (the parties) do an outstanding job, they may have a winner.

Now let us determine HOW we are going to arrive at the decision of whom to place our vote for. As I see it, this is about filtering through the Hype and Lies when it gets down to it. The media stirs things up and makes it much less clear who we could vote for. I did not say “Should vote for” I said “Could Vote for”; as in passing all our own personal litmus tests.

I like using analogies, and this may be a fairly good one here.

How about IF our country and our society had as series of Lie Detectors which were used to filter and separate the lies, records (history) and deceits told to us by various candidates (frequently repeated by the media). Maybe think of an HR Department filtering applicants for a position they need to fill at Xyz Company.

IF, this were the case, the objective of today’s media and the job they should continue to perform would be to UN-distort and UN-confuse the voting public. How is the media doing so far? Our Lie Detectors would then need to determine which candidate has the best degree of accuracy.

WE as Americans as a Voting Public are the brains behind the process of selecting and voting on this candidate. We are missing the boat completely if we vote based upon the present day filtered process of the media or any political or religious affiliations.

WE are the filter, WE are the individuals “Charged with” selecting and voting on our personal selected individual.

The entire process is based upon the knowledge of WE the People. WE decide, WE learn, WE listen, WE observe, and WE ask questions etc., until WE are decided on who should get our vote. It is then these votes that elect the candidate to be our president.

Side Note: after the fact, modern day Congress is charged with, (and failing miserably) holding meetings with their constituents and Learning what WE the people want the elected officials to do for us.

I believe that between Politics, Government and Media they have each played a big part in confusing WE the People, to the point that we do not know who said what, who is doing what or what caused the issues we need to recover from. Notice I gave negative credit to the Media and the Politicians, AND equally included the Government.

I do not, never did understand the value of the Electoral College (that is a government issue that needs to be removed.) Why do we need or want a “decision maker” beyond what WE the People decide.

IF we have 320 million in our population, and we assume that half of them are qualified to vote (160 million), AND that of this population we have 80million votes cast (great year), then we have a decision.

The END of issue, election over, do the inauguration and get on with the business of pulling our nation out of the Emotional, Political, Economic and Financial Power Dive that we are in.

This is important, to ALL of us…

This is important, to ALL of us… so do not ignore it.

  1. This is ME personally, writing to ask and challenge every reader of this blog, to follow the link below and really learn what is happening to our planet.
  2. Then share the link with every contact you have, particularly world leaders and politicians.  http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/earthrise/2015/11/long-road-paris-151126081947485.html.

Yes, you are very right; there are MANY things happening to our planet, the most obvious is anger, frustration, resulting in violence, and terrorism.  I believe the animals of our planet are frustrated, resulting in sharks, elephants, tigers and more behaving aggressively.

There is another prime area of concern, and that is Global Warming. It should be first, but too many people around the globe are treating it too lightly.  Now I wonder if there is any correlation between these two.

• If the islanders who are frustrated, with being flooded out; are the sharks and whales being frustrated as well?
• If the cities in China are being inundated with pollution from Global use of carbon fuels, are the birds, trees and animals of the earth being choked by the polluted air we are breathing?

Check out this video. I warn you, you may not like what you see, and if so, please forward/share to as many people as you know, (particularly leaders and politicians).  http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/earthrise/2015/11/long-road-paris-151126081947485.html

quote on “attitude” from an earlier year…

Attitude…  Well worth repeating, plus comments at the end.

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. To me, attitude is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church and a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitudes we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past; we cannot change the fact that people will act a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The ONLY thing that we can do is play on the one string we have; and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you, we are in charge of our Attitudes!”

(— Charles Swindholl- 1934—)

This is likely MORE important today than it was in his day (1934), likely due to population shift/growth, Speed of communications,  Global Marketing and Internet Marketing.

Likely further enhanced buy the stress levels of the entire global population, including (apparently) all of the animal kingdom.

“Engineering that endured”, again and again…

I did not research or write this article (I wish I had), I would for sure credit the author.  I it is well worth reading.  My bet is that not many people know this information.  It is here just for fun, I heard that is called trivia.

Engineering that endured (for many years).Railroad

  • The U.S. Standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That’s an exceedingly odd number.

Why was that gauge used?

  • Because that’s the way they built them in England, and English expatriates designed the U.S. Railroads.   Why did the English build them…like that?
  • Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre –  railroad tramways”, and that’s the gauge they used.

Wagon  Why did ‘they’ use that gauge then?

  • Because the people who built the tramways used the same jig and tools that they had used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.

Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing?

  • Well, if they tried to use any other spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that’s the spacing of the wheel ruts.

So, who built those old rutted roads?   RuttedRoad

  • Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (including England) for their legions.

Those roads have been used ever since, and with the ruts in the roads?

  • Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels.
  • Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.
  • Therefore, the United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original specifications for an Imperial Roman war chariot.
  • In other words, bureaucracies live forever. Chariot

So the next time you are handed a specification, procedure, or process, and wonder, ‘What horse’s ass came up with this?’, you may be exactly right.

  • Imperial Roman army chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the rear ends of two war horses.HorsesAss

Now, the twist to the story:

When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, you will notice that there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank.

SpaceShuttle

These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs. The SRBs are made by Thiokol at their factory in Utah.

The engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred to make them a bit larger, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site.

The railroad line from the factory happens to run through a tunnel in the mountains, and the SRBs had to fit through that tunnel.

TunnelThe tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track, as you now know, is about as wide as two horses’ behinds.

So, a major Space Shuttle design feature of what is arguably the world’s most advanced transportation system was determined over two thousand years ago by the width of a horse’s ass.

And you thought being a horse’s ass wasn’t important!

Now you know, Horses’ Asses control almost everything…

Explains a whole lot of stuff, doesn’t it?

THE EXPENDABLES 2 (having fun)…

THE EXPENDABLES 2, – with Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and more. WOW…

To: all my friends, and movie lovers everywhere, especially within the last 2 decades.

WOW, I appreciated this movie, and wanted to share it with movie lovers that I know and respect, particularly those in the generations where these actors were on screen nearly every week (it felt that way anyway). We grew up with them.

Dear; brother Glenn…

I promise that you will appreciate and get excited about this movie as I did. You will appreciate where they are in life now, and that they came back for their fans, as my wife and I and friends came back for them.

My wife and I went with with another couple. We laughed, we Cried, we Remembered growing up with these guys (well at least after they invented movies and we were allowed to see “these movies”).

My bet is that you will do the same. It was great. I know you will appreciate it, as will you family and friends.

Can you visualize Arnold and crew zip lining through the jungle under fire yet, and coming directly into the thick of the gun fire.

Can you see Chuck Norris doing his famous Kick Boxing style of fighting during an encounter in a warehouse somewhere?

There were so many characters in the whole adventure, some of whom I had forgotten, so that was another recall for me. There must have been 12-14 altogether (felt like it).

And how about Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis. All of these guys are technically too old for this action, yet put together a great and entertaining performance in this movie. They came back for their fans.

The first thing that struck me the day we went is the number of patrons in the theater. In recent years I have seen a serious decline in the number of patrons per showing. The theater was not packed, but at least was ½ full (more than I have seen in quite some time). We all remembered and came to watch them coming back for their fans.

Arnold is (or was) a governor of some state out west for Christ sake, why would he risk his life, his health to do a movie. For his fan’s that is why. THEY were impressive enough, that there has been at least one sequel (I think two). I need to send myself this letter so I can go too (again).

Just go see the movie. You will be pleased, impressed, etc. You will laugh as we did, and cry as we did. Remember, these guys are in there 60’s plus. Go see the movie.

Sincerely; your friend and brother forever, Dale.

PS: Glenn, please (well everyone) share this letter with those I may have missed by mistake…

PSS: Glenn, you have been gone from this earth for right at two years now, but I do hope you can find this movie somewhere. Bring your new friends too. Just go and see the movie. Did you catch up with your wife Joe?
